Mysterious movements on the surface

Yesterday this picture was taken from Klifá sightseeing place. This movement in the surface of Lagarfljót look suspicious and reminds us of descriptions from last year of three humps, one larger then others, rising above the surface and then slowly disappearing again.

Is this from movements of the wyrm monster in Lagarfljot?

Under a red sky

raudur2013The mysterious lake Lagarfljót appears different everyday. Some days it reflects the red sky while others the dark grey-brownish color of the glacier water hides the creatures of the lake. And in February and March we can expect the lake to be covered with ice, but no one dares to go skating. It might be related to the wyrm monster.

As has often been mentioned on this website there are many sightings of mysterious movements or phenomens on or in the Lagarfljot lake. Is it the wyrm or some other monsters? Usually the eye-witnesses don’t have their camera by hand. But sometimes they have, just like Hjortur Kjerulf in February 2012. And here is a link to a new footage taken in February 2013 of some mysterious movements on the monster lake.

Our Wyrm in River Monsters

Jeremy Wade by LagarfljotJeremy Wade was one of those who visited Lagarfljot region last summer after having heard about the lake monster in the world news. He spent some time trying to catch our wyrm and of course he dropped by at Hjörtur Kjerulf’s home and got good advice and description. This episode in the 5th season of River Monsters is called Legend of Loch Ness and will go out on Animal Planet US on 27th May.

The winter is drifting away around the monster lake. But the ice on the shore has various forms, some of them reminds you of the mysterious creatures that many have seen in the lake. This is pictures taken yesterday in Atlavik where the north wind has blown drifting ice to the shore and the sun has melted it into forms. Is this sculpture a copy of the monsters head?

Russian TV-program about our wyrm

On 23rd February the Lagarfljotsormur was on Russian TV. A program about water monsters around the world spent good 10 minutes in interviews and stories about our famous worm monster. They interviewed Skúli Björn Gunnarsson, director of the Institute of Gunnar Gunnarsson at Skriðuklaustur and two eye-witnesses, Elín Kröyer who saw the monster in the sixties and Þurý Bára Birgisdóttir who saw something big and strange out on the lake in April 2012. Of course the world famous footage from Hjörtur Kjerúlf was also mentioned. Here is the link to the program which starts with our wyrm. Good information for those who speak Russian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeXB38d2rpc

The Worm Monster – fact or faked?

A group of experts from the TV program Fact or faked came to Iceland last spring. They did research the location where Hjortur Kjerulf shot his footage in February and tried to make things moving in the water there just like the “monster” on the footage. But they also went out to the big Lagarfljot lake in hunt for the worm monster. The episode can now been seen on the web.

Of course he had to visit Hjörtur Kjerúlf at Hrafnkelsstadir, the farmer who filmed the mysterious monster swimming in the river beneath his home in February. Here you can see clips from Villi’s visit to Hrafnkelsstadir.

The lake monster of Lagarfljot appears once again!

Few days ago Hjortur Kjerulf, a farmer in Fljotsdalur valley East Iceland, recorded a remarkable video of some large creature swimming upstream in the river Jökulsa in Fljotsdal. That river is one of the main rivers that runs into the great lake Lagarfljot which is just 2 km away from the farmers home. Lake Lagarfljot is famous for begin very deep and for its monsterous wyrm that has appeared there ever since 1345.  The video clip has now spread around the world with the question, is this the famous lake monster Lagarfljotsormur, or its baby. You can view this clip on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OmyyHyya64 and judge for yourself.
